Tuning Advanced LIGO for Targeted Searches

Abstract: The advanced detector era in ground-based gravitational wave astronomy is expected to bring with it an overall factor of 10 increase in strain sensitivity over the initial LIGO detectors. The upgraded instruments are also expected to have a broader sensitivity band, reaching down to 10 Hz, from the previous era's 40 Hz. Beyond these broad improvements to the noise spectrum lies the potential for tuning the instruments to achieve higher sensitivities at specific frequencies. I will show the various detector tuning configurations that have been proposed, and briefly discuss some of their advantages and disadvantages for source detections.
