Numerical simulations of photospheric emission from variable engine jets

Abstract: I will present the results from a set of relativistic 2D GRB jet numerical simulations with variable engine luminosity. The jets evolution was computed at very high resolution (∼108 cm), and they were followed as they drilled through the stellar progenitor (∼109 - 1011 cm), and then as they evolved through the ISM (up to ∼1013 cm). At such large radii I calculated the Lorentz factor, luminosity, and spectra from photospheric emission. I will compare the results to analytical predictions and discuss their consistency with the Amati and Yonetoku relations as well as with the more robust intra-burst luminosity-peak frequency correlations.
